The Federal Constitutional Court ruled that the current unequal tretament of partners of registered civil law partnerships and married couples in Germany is not in line with the constitutional principle of equality.
The Federal government (Bundesregierung) approved a draft bill in response to this ruling. All tax provisions related to married couples shall also be applicable to partners of registered civil law partnerships. The draft bill is subject to approval of both houses of the German parliament (Bundestag and Bundesrat).

The Bill on equal treatment of registered civil law partnerships and married couples have been published in the official gazette. All tax provisions related to married couples are also applicable to all registered partnerships in all pending and future cases.
